Labor Day of 1985, Art Good, a known Jazz producer in the United States, started his program JazzTrax (then Lites Out) when he was still a DJ at a radio station. Years later, he mounted annual Catalina Island JazzTrax Festivals each year (except 2020) as a way of giving it back to his loyal listeners of the show. The annual jazz festival, now being the longest-running on record, taps prominent jazz and RNB artists to the famous 1920's ballroom at Catalina Casino for two weekends.
As JazzTrax grows popular not ony in the United States, but also worldwide. One radio station in Edinburgh, Scotland carries the show; and in the Philippines, it was became a weekly syndicated show. First, it began on Citylite 88.3 in the 90's (which Art Good sends reel-to-reel tapes to Manila back in the day, as per his sharings) before moving to 105.1 Crossover for few years and it continued on their online streaming channel Crossover Radio Online in early 2020.
JazzTrax began on September 16, 2023 on VMPCRadio, originally sourced from a 5-hour MP3 file on the JazzTrax website, but in the latter months, it began to source 15 MP3 files (3/hour) from Seabreeze in Miramar Beach, California and edits them days before the actual airing.
JazzTrax is a weekend show that takes listeners into a new world of absolute newest and classic old tunes every weekend as well as a quick glance of the Billboard Jazz Charts on the last hour. Occasional specials are also available too like the JazzTrax Festival special, and their annual Christmas Vault and yearender specials as well.
When Crossover suddenly came to an abrupt end of an era in Mid-August this year without the management's notice, VMPCRadio continues the show where Crossover has left off. JazzTrax continuously airs every Saturday mornings at 8am PHST (Midnight UTC) during DST in the United States, and at 9am (PHST, 1am UTC) when the United States is in Standard Time from Early November to Early March. We will provide special or catch-up airings on days that are OFF-THE-AIR during longer week periods like New Year's break and Holy Week, which the station will announce the catch-up airing day and time of the previous week's broadcast.
As JazzTrax celebrates 40 years on the air, we at VMPC Studios and VMPCRadio 89.5 Mix FM congratulate Art Good and his famous jazz show in America for this achievement and we look forward to more collaborations to come.
